Education system
Children aged 6-7 start school, after 4 years (4h grade) they finish the Primary school. Then they study in 5th - 12th grades in a Secondary school. In the 9th grade in Secondary students can choose to either continue their education in a Secondary school or in one of the Gymnasiums.
Compared to ISCED - International Standard Classification of Education
Start of school year: September 1.
End of school year: Beginning/ middle of June.
School holidays: autumn (seven calendar days), Christmas (14 calendar days), Easter (seven calendar days) and summer holidays (at least two months).
Assessment: In grades 5-12, learning achievements are assessed on a 10-point scale. (10 is the best)
Average number of students per class: 23-25.
Number of schooldays per week: five.
What does a typical day at school look like?
Lessons begin at 8 am and last until 14~15 ( 2~3 pm).Children usually have lunch at school. They bring it from home or buy in the cafeteria of the school. It costs about 1-2 euro to eat lunch at school. Students usually have 6-7 lessons every day. One lesson lasts 45 minutes and there are breaks of 5-10 minutes after each one of them and a break of ~30 minutes at lunch time.
Are there any sports/ art/ other clubs at school? Yes, indeed. There are sports and art clubs in every school. It's not obligatory to join them. Most of the students prefer going to private youth clubs. It's a whole plenitude of such clubs in Lithuania for sports, art and many other activities.
